Amy Simpson

I am a new and fresh designer- creator with a particular interest in organic forms, texture and colour. I like to explore the freedom of organic forms and the subsequent control of design, in applying detail and colour which enables the piece to function as a whole but remain aesthetically balanced.

My abstract and contemporary pieces are fashioned from sterling silver using a variety of methods and some create innate natural variations which are then adapted to enhance their natural beauty, often by the application of kiln fired enamels. Textured and coloured surfaces are created by multi-layering of impressions, and application of heat in order to achieve the desired finish.

I also like to play with unusual juxtapositions and contradictions of texture, colour and form, and my volcanic contemporary yet affordable range of rings, earrings and pendants was created as a result of this.

My beaded range of jewellery, with a particular focus on drop earrings, is inspired by the natural beauty of semi-precious rocks and gems, combined with silver to create unique, handcrafted pieces which are very wearable and functional and affordable.

Where possible I try to minimise the impact my silversmithing and jewellery making has upon the environment; reducing the need for soldering, re-using found objects and recycling vintage beads. I do not provide excessive packaging in order to reduce waste, and any packaging that I do use is recyclable or compostable.
